Baseball - Ticket Manager
In the minor and major baseball leagues the ticket manager has the responsibility to manage ticket sales and to maximize the number of fans attending each game. This may include marketing season passes and inclusive tickets for boxes or suites within the given baseball facility. Ticket managers work closely with the administration of the ballpark as well as the management of the team to price and market tickets and ticket packages to maximize profits while still ensuring that the stands will be as full as possible on game days.
One of the major roles of the ticket manager is to ensure that ticket sales are completed accurately and to the satisfaction of the customers. Often ticket managers have to deal with customer complaints regarding the location of seats or the limited view of the diamond that some seats may offer. The ticket manager trains all employees working in ticket sales on dealing with customers and policies and protocols regarding refunds and handling complaints.
Since most systems are now tracked and monitored through the use of software programs the ticket manager must be familiar with various computer programs. He or she should also have excellent management skills and ability to work with both employees and customers in resolving issues. The ticket manager may also have to respond to trouble and issues that develop regarding ticket sales on the day of the game and should have excellent ability to work under pressure and time constraints. Good networking and communication skills are essential for a ticket manager at a ballpark.
Common work activities include:
- Administering, supervising and tracking ticket sales both for season tickets, day of game sales and internet ticket sales.
- Ensuring quotas and required numbers of ticket sales are met for each game.
- Working to constantly increase the market for ticket sales both for season tickets and individual games.
- Training ticket and sales staff to understand the policies and procedures for ticket sales and marketing within the organization.
- Making deposits, collecting money from cashiers and overseeing the data entry on ticket sales on a daily basis.
- Developing and implementing the budget for the ticket sales and ticket office as determined in conjunction with both team and facilities management.
- Responding to and resolving customer complaints and concerns with regards to ticket sales or the location of seats within the ballpark.
