Wedding Videographer

A wedding videographer is responsible for making a video or taped record of various aspects of the wedding from the preparation of the bride on through to the reception and all aspects in between. A wedding videographer must have a good ability to work with people as well as being flexible and understanding at this sometimes stressful time. Since the wedding is a one-time event it is very important that the videographer capture exactly what the couple wants as there is no chance to do it over to correct any problems or omissions.
A wedding videographer may either set up in advance or may do some filming as an impromptu event, depending on the desire of the couple. He or she will first meet with the couple to discuss what they would like in their wedding film. The videographer will usually then visit the church, picture areas and even the reception hall or room to decide where to set up the equipment. The videographer must be able to get the desired shots while staying in the background and not distracting from the ceremony or reception event.
In addition to providing good quality wedding videos the photographer must also keep equipment in good condition, prepare back up equipment in the event of battery failures or power glitches, understand how to edit the final video as well as adding music, graphics or sound to the video. Many videographers use digital images that can be easily modified and edited using a computer and computer skills and a variety of programs are required for this process.
Common work activities include:
- Advertising and marketing the services and the options for the various types of wedding videographers.
- Meeting with clients in advance to determine exactly what they want to have in the final product and where the various aspects of the wedding will be held.
- Examining the various venues, setting up equipment and planning what specific lighting, equipment or other supplies will be needed.
- Attending and filming the wedding and all other aspects of the wedding day as previously determined.
- Editing and preparing the final wedding video by the due date agreed upon.
- Using various computer programs to enhance or add to the wedding video and prepare a professional looking final product.
