Production Development And Analysis Engineer
Production development and analysis engineers both create and cost new products based on the needs of the clients or customers. All engineers have some formal training in engineers in and many have professional engineer status or a master or even doctoral level training in a relevant engineering field. Production engineers work to design and develop new products and then help establish systems of manufacturing the various designed items. Most production engineers can work on any time of item the customer is wanting to design whereas others work specifically in one particular field such as aerospace, telecommunications, electronics or even developing new appliances or household items.
A production development engineer does more than just the initial drafting of the design. He or she also completes cost analysis and work to keep projects within client's budgets and guidelines by suggesting alternate materials or production options. They also work to develop a prototype of the item, test it for durability, accuracy or effectiveness and then make modifications as required.
Product development analysis engineers use several different computer programs to complete both the drafting and cost analysis components of the development. They will also use computer systems designs in the production of the item both in the prototype stage as well as in full production. An ability to understand how things work, communicate well with others, think outside of the box and troubleshoot programs are all important characteristics for a product development engineer.
Common work activities include:
- Discussing new projects with clients to determine exactly what is required.
- Researching the best possible components, materials and options for designing the product.
- Working with various computer aided drafting programs, design programs and cost analysis software to provide information to the client regarding the project.
- Working with the production team to create a prototype of the product.
- Making revisions, changes and modifications to the production or model based on testing of the prototype.
- Managing the overall accuracy and quality of the project and managing deadlines and timeframes.
