Die Casting Shop Quality Assurance Technician
A die casting shop quality assurance technician is responsible for checking and maintaining the level of quality of each item made by cast aluminum. Quality assurance technicians are important to ensure that all products meet the required safety standards as well as being the exact size, dimensions, and measurements that the specific project or design calls for. In a die casting shop the quality assurance technician works largely on programming a machine know as a CMM or coordinate measure machine that tests all cast aluminum production for quality and accuracy.
Quality assurance technicians work in a plant or production area and should be familiar with all plant safety procedures and production protocols. The series of procedures that the die casting shop quality assurance technician uses will be specific to that shop and process, and often the tech works to set up those qualifications based on industry standards and consumer needs. Excellent communication skills and an ability to work under deadlines and stress is very important. Often the quality assurance technician will catch errors that potential could cause a lot of re-work or even complete disposal of the product if not found quickly in the process.
Quality assurance control technicians may also work to educate other employees about current industry standards and guidelines. This education is important to help everyone involved in the process understand the need for high standards and quality control testing. Most quality control technicians have some from education in quality control as well as experience within the industry. Most die casting aluminum quality control technicians will work standard business hours but some demand for shift work or evening work may be possible depending on the company.
Common work activities include:
- Researching and reviewing standards for the industry regarding the production of die cast aluminum items.
- Programming the coordinate measurement machines using basic computer operations.
- Quality testing items including physically examining the item, completing stress tests or other diagnosis tests.
- Reporting any substandard production immediately to the production manager, foreman or supervisor.
- Maintaining paperwork, computer logs are other required documentation.
- Working to keep high quality die casting aluminum products being produced on schedule.
