The Art Institute Online offers a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts and Animation. Students begin their program with basic classes in drawing, color, character design, and computer applications. The instructors are experienced in the industry and guide students through out their college career. As students progress through the school they will learn 2D and 3D animation, story development, background design, special effects and more. They will be taught how to use specific industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop.

For admissions to the program a student must have graduated high school with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or have scored at least 225 on their GED certificate test. Other degrees such as a bachelor degree are acceptable as well. Prospective students are required to submit a portfolio for evaluation during the application process. This will include a variety of ten to twenty drawings that demonstrate current competency in figure drawing and the use of color, texture and shading. A portfolio of at least ten to fifteen pages showing life drawings of animals and figures is required as well. These must be submitted to be considered for placement in the program. Strong skills in each of the above are highly recommended. Once students have completed their program of study they will be ready for entry level positions in such fields as computer generated lighting, compositing and rendering, storyboard and texture artists, broadcast graphic artists, forensic artists and more.
