Online Degree Programs in Liberal Arts
Liberal arts programs, also known as humanities programs, are offered to students who may not know what they want to study in college. Liberal arts programs offer students the opportunity to take courses in many disciplines including math, natural sciences, social sciences, philosophy, theatre, English, and history. Students will also be able to take elective courses in art, music, journalism, and more. For some students, this is a great way to find out what college has to offer. While some students will declare another major after their first or second year, some students will continue on and earn a liberal arts degree.
Students who enjoy reading, writing, and analyzing literature, philosophical theories, and psychology case studies, will benefit from taking classes in each subject. Depending on which college one attends, students enrolled in a liberal arts program will be able to choose their own courses. Other colleges will have a stricter curriculum. Students will generally be able to choose one or two classes within a list of disciplines. There are also colleges that will let students work independently without the distraction of other students or instructors. Students will be given a curriculum for the semester and will turn in assignments and other work to their advisor every few weeks. This type of learning is only for those who are disciplined enough to work on their own and turn in assignments on time.
A degree in liberal arts can be used in a variety of careers. People who earn a liberal arts degree will have problem solving and critical thinking skills that can be applied to may tasks at the workplace. From working in a team environment, to completing projects on time, there are many positive qualities that students can bring to the workplace. Students will also be able to return to school if they need to earn another degree.
