Students that are interested in pursuing a career in accounting, bookkeeping, bills received or payable departments, business management or auditing should consider completing a foundations level course in an Associate of Applied Science in accounting. These classes are designed to provide students with a well developed understanding of basic accounting principles in many different businesses and workplace settings.
While courses do cover the theoretical aspects of accounting including legal and management issues, they also focus on the practical nature of the career. Journal entry for billing and accounts receivable, preparing accounting and financial statements and reports as well as management of payroll accounts are a key focus in the program. Students will be encouraged to use a variety of both ledger-type accounting styles as well as online and computer based accounting programs used in businesses today.
