A Bachelor of Arts in accounting can be used to prepare students to write and complete their certified public accountant or CPA designation. The four-year bachelor program provides a strong educational foundation for this certification and graduates will need to take an additional fifth year if they wish to pursue their CPA. Students that just wish to complete the BA in accounting can work as business accountants, tax preparation professionals, bookkeepers, auditors or financial managers in business, government agencies or banks.
Students in the program will complete courses on accounting principles, technology in accounting, spreadsheets and software programs, databases, legal issues in accounting, taxation, auditing and financial management. There is flexibility to allow students to take electives in areas that are of interest including non-profit agencies and government sector accounting and financial management.
