Online learning has become a popular alternative to attending classes in a classroom. Due to the amount of time people have each day, learning online will allow them the freedom to study when it is convenient without having to take the time out of the day to go to class. Those who design the curriculum for online courses are educators who come from a teaching or administration background. Having a PhD in education is not necessary, but does help students find positions at online learning institutions much easier. Learning how to create curriculum and instruction for online classes is the goal of this degree program.
Teaching online is different from teaching in a classroom because lectures are recorded, virtual classrooms are used to carry on discussions, and tests are rarely used to evaluate students abilities because they are difficult to give online. Students in this degree program will evaluate ways to teach, evaluate student performance, and make sure that students have all the materials they will need to earn their degree online.
