For those who want to teach at the elementary school level, one hundred hours of student teaching in front of the class is required in order to qualify for a teaching license. In addition to student teaching, students will also have to complete coursework that will help them become better teachers. Learning how to explain information to those at the elementary level will require designing a curriculum, creating group and individual activities that are both educational and entertaining, and assessing the learning abilities of individual children in the classroom.
Courses that students will need to complete in order to earn their degree include Child and Adolescent Development, Foundations in Curriculum, and Public Speaking. Most students complete this degree program in two years. After earning their teaching license, students will be able to find positions to teach in various elementary schools, development centers, and in after school programs.
