The Associate of Science for a dental assistant is completed after the student has already completed the diploma as a Dental Assistant. The program expands and enhances the coursework and practical experience gained in the diploma program. Graduates will be able to work in dental clinics, dental offices or even in school programs or other specialized services for dental hygiene and care. While dental assistants cannot work without supervision by a dentist they do complete many routine duties under the dentists supervision.
Course covered in the Associate of Science for dental assistants include dental hygiene, taking dental radiographs or imaging, completing dental impressions for dentures, bridges and orthodontics, as well as how to work with the patients and explain procedures. Since most dental assistants will complete the cleaning procedure they should also be able to work on the patients with professionalism and comfort, explain and working with patients to teach proper dental care.
