Online Degree Programs in Health Promotion & Education

Promoting health organizations, health insurance companies, and promoting public health education are the jobs of those who may work for government agencies, private corporations, or public service organizations. Since many countries have privatized health care, it is important for people to understand the kinds of options that are available. Health care plans are different in terms of the types of care they provide and the amount of flexibility they have when it comes to choosing doctors and other health care professionals. Even what will be covered and what will not is determined by the type of plan that a person has. Educating the public about health care, hospital care, and the importance of having yearly check-ups will help promote awareness and maybe even save the lives of those who may not have visited a doctor otherwise.

Those who want to work in these positions will have to complete the following courses: public relations, health care laws and policies, ethics, communications, psychology, and business management. Students may work with hospitals to promote new technologies that are available, they may work with community health care centers to promote personal health, or they may work for government agencies that try to help those who cannot afford health insurance. There are many career choices that will require students to take courses in health care management so that they will have an understanding of how medical establishments operate and how to effectively explain these processes to the public.

Being able to clearly state hospital policy or develop marketing materials that promote public health are tasks that those who are working in health education will have to complete in order to make the public aware of their options. Helping others by keeping them informed of new treatments for certain illnesses, the options they have concerning health care, and the types of medical emergencies they should seek care for are all parts of this job.
