Online Degree Programs in Law

Law degrees, while typically considered only applicable to attorneys, may also be used by those in upper management of law enforcement agencies, security services, or government or corporate agencies. Often law degrees are taken as dual degrees with business administration, journalism or political science advanced degrees. Generally students will complete law degrees in a progressive series starting with a bachelor and working through a masters level to a Juris Doctorate or J.D. Degrees in law can be completed online, through in person traditional lectures or in a combination of both options. Many advanced level law degrees are set to allow working professionals to complete their degree while continuing to work full or part time.

Law program courses of study will vary depending on the areas of law that the student is studying. A general law degree will include historical aspects of the development of laws, court systems and the role of lawyers in policy development. In addition classes on proceedings in various types of courts, tort law, criminal, real estate, family and civil law are all discussed in all levels of training. In addition coursework focuses on allowing the student to develop their abilities to think logically, communicate effectively, and research and develop effective practices for working within the legal system.

Students with law degrees may not choose to work within the legal system as attorneys. Many individuals with law degrees work in international business, corporate management, contracts and acquisitions, or even as labor specialists for unions or corporations. The skills developed in a law program are highly applicable to most business and management settings as well as to court proceedings or civil law practices. Some with law degrees may choose to work as instructors or consultants to other schools, companies or training centers or community groups.
