Students that pursue a program of study in biotechnology may find themselves working in agricultural, pharmaceutical, medical or private research and development laboratories and production facilities. Biotechnology is the science of combining biology with advanced knowledge in cellular and DNA technology to create new and different genetic and biological organisms. Biotechnology is considered some of the most cutting edge technology used for enhancing food production, medical advancements and other research and development projects. Most graduates from biotechnology programs will find work in the pharmaceutical of food production sectors of the marketplace. Some will also be hired by private laboratories or research facilities and or may work for medical research hospitals. Many biotechnologists also act as consultants or lecturers once they have gained experience in the field. The more advanced the level of training and experience the more likely the graduates are to return to teaching or to work as private consultants.
