Online Degree Programs in Physics

Physics is the science of energy, matter, and their interactions. It tries to perceive matter and energies relationship and the laws of nature. Unlike many professions, people look upon physics as a mode of thinking, where students use a problem-solving, methodical approach to any situations in which they become involved. This prepares the student in methods of science and concepts, which apply in several different research topics and professional areas. Physic studies deal with such things as the total universe structure, black holes and subatomic particles. Using mathematical formulas, physicists try to explain their tentative theory and make predictions. The science of physics has attracted, as well as confounded, some of histories most brilliant minds such as Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein and Sir Isaac Newton. Currently there is still ongoing research in all areas of physics and it is one of the fastest growing research areas in the physical sciences.

Scientists apply the laws of physics to how things work in levels or fields that are more practical such as biology, engineering, electronics and communications. Technical development such as semiconductors and lasers resulted from physics pioneering work. For example, without the science of physics, such things as digital cameras, televisions and microwaves would be nonexistent.

Considered by many to be the most fundamental science of all, physics is the study of how the world functions. Developing theories that summarize not only the laws of nature but help lead to an understanding about why and the way things work, is the final goal of physics. Since the basic of physics applies to just about all other sciences many people use it as a jumping-off point into other professions or fields of study. The majority of people with a degree in physics work in fields such as education, medicine or industry.
