Online Degree Programs in History
Students that choose a degree in history will find that they have many different options for courses as well as a great deal of possibilities for careers when they graduate. History is, of course, the study of the past, but there are different time periods in history that the student may choose to specialize in, or they may do a general program. History programs and degrees may include associates, bachelor, master or even doctoral level training depending on the needs of the student.
Courses in history offer a broad spectrum of educational classes both online and in person. History students can choose from courses in public history, anthropology, museum anthropology, research and design, sociology, archeology, U.S history, historical periods from various civilizations, countries and cultures, as well as elective courses on human development, multiculturalism and cultural diversity, military history or development of machinery or even technology. The courses are designed to give the student a very wide perspective on historical development and change in the entry- level programs with opportunities to specialize as students move to more advanced programs. The courses may be mixed and matched to be of interest to the student, although most students will naturally find that they are more drawn to one aspect of history more than others.
A graduate of a history program can apply for positions in elementary, middle and secondary schools, as well as teaching at college or university levels with more advanced degrees. Museums and other historical associations and groups also hire graduates to run programs and complete historical research on a contract or ongoing basis. Many graduates of history programs also work as writers, newspaper reporters, museum and historical site directors or managers as well as economic and political advisors or analysts.
