Online Degree Programs in Journalism & Communications

    Not only just reporting the news, journalism and communications professionals work in almost every agency, business and corporation. These are often the front line workers with regards to dealing with the press and media, developing campaigns and information, as well as writing and handling publicity for agencies and government offices. Students can complete a bachelor, master or PhD level programs in journalism and communications, with specializations particular areas within the field. Students will focus on both local and international issues and programs and will study the relationship and interconnectedness of communication and journalism with other aspects of information gathering and dissemination.

    Courses within the journalism and communications programs are designed to encourage and assist students in developing their ability to research, evaluate, validate, write and report on various topics of interest and importance. Ethical considerations for journalists are a key part of the programs with consideration being given to both narrow and broad ethical considerations. Students will take a variety of courses including economics, political and government studies, sociology, communications, computers and technology, cultures and cultural development, multiculturalism and cultural diversity. Students will focus on one area of journalism and communication including newspaper, radio and television and business and management.

    Many students that choose a degree or program in journalism and communications also complete a minor or dual degree in law, business, public or international issues or religion. Some students enter the journalism field already with an area of expertise or knowledge and these students use this as a springboard for their journalism or communication career. New advances in technology both in communications and computers are addressed though coursework and practical experience throughout the programs. Since most instructors of journalism and communication are experienced journalists themselves the courses tend to be very interesting and highly applicable to real world situations.
