Online Degree Programs in Computer Programming

Creating programs that people use everyday is just one of the many jobs that computer programmers can perform. Writing code, testing existing programs, troubleshooting, and creating user manuals are other skills that programmers will learn while in school. Students will be able to find employment in government agencies, software companies, robotics companies, video game companies, or they will be able to work for themselves creating programs on a freelance basis. There are many possibilities for those who enjoy working with computers and software programs. The following courses will be taken in order to earn a degree: computer programming, software management, C++, Java, SQL, and computer systems.

Those who earn degrees in computer programming will be able to work as network technicians, researchers, software engineers, programmers, and in project management. Having in-depth knowledge of different computer languages, programs, and network systems will allow students to apply for many different positions. Project management, for example, requires that students not only possess computer programming skills, but also interpersonal communication skills, leadership skills, listening skills, and time management skills. Project managers will lead teams, create projects, and oversee all aspects of a project until it is complete.

Computer programming will continue to change as computer technology changes. Advances are made each year that will affect the way programs are written, tested, and marketed to the public. Computer programmers can also work in merchandising and development departments giving input on how software should be sold to the public and what will need to be included in the instructions and operations manuals. Computer software that is sold to those who do not have much experience using the computer is only valuable if it can be used properly. Technical writing is another skill that computer programmers should learn in order to work in various departments within a company.
