Food Services - Customer Relations Representative

In the food services industry, a good customer relations representative or customer service spokesperson understands that the customer comes first. When working in the food services industry, it is important to take care of and serve the customer in an effective, quick and professional manner. Customers do not want to wait long but if it is necessary because it is a busy time, always acknowledge your customers presence. Nobody wants to feel ignored or overlooked on purpose, so make the customer feel noticed and important.
Always treat patrons with kindness, respect and remain polite, no matter how rude, disrespectful or poorly they may behave. Not only is that part of being an exceptional customer relations representative but also often takes the wind out of an irate customers sails and ends up making them feel confused and foolish. If the patron does have a legitimate complaint, you should do everything possible to correct the problem and come to a solution that keeps your customer happy. Most restaurant customers are understanding and just want to have a wonderful, enjoyable meal with no stress or problems.
A good food services customer relations representative must posses exceptional self-control, keep cool under pressure and have the ability to remain calm when dealing with unreasonable or rude customers. Sometimes a customer's expectation can be unreasonable. Make sure your staff is prompt, kind and courteous to customers and your customer will be happy and return to dine in your establishment again.
Common work activities include:
- Ensuring that customers are greeting promptly when entering the facility and provided seating and service as soon as possible.
- Responding to customer complaints and problems in a prompt, professional manner.
- Offering appropriate accommodations or resolutions for customers to keep them satisfied with the restaurant.
- Training staff and managers on customer service and methods to resolve conflicts with patrons in a polite and respectful manner.
- Assisting in solving problems within the facility with regards to customer service or satisfaction. This includes troubleshooting issues between the various types of staff that work within the facility from suppliers through to servers.
