Vending Wholesaler

Vending wholesalers represent various food and beverage companies and handle selling these items to vending companies to sell in the various machines located in most business, stores, gas stations, malls and hospitals around the world. Vending wholesalers are usually responsible for a territory, which is the geographical area that they represent with regards to sales of vending machine food items. The vending wholesaler may have laborers, delivery drivers, warehouse staff or even other sales representatives that work under them.
The vending wholesalers spends time with the food item manufacturer to learn about new and existing products they are marketing for vending machines. With the information included expected sales and market reports the vending wholesaler then reports to the vending machine owners and attempts to market the new food item to be added into the vending machines. If they are successful they then take orders and book deliveries of the new item to the vending machines. The vending wholesaler also invoices the vending company, pays the supply company, arranges delivery and manages any questions the vending company may have with regards to the product.
There is a fair amount of travel involved in the job of a vending wholesaler, but there is an equal amount of time spent organizing and coordinating deliveries, meeting with both supplier and buyers, training and managing staff as well a handling problems or incorrect orders. The vending wholesaler may contract private delivery company drivers and trucks or may work with the company delivery system. Good organizational skills, computer order entry and verification skills and an ability to work well with others are important for this career.
Common work activities include:
- Meeting with food company representatives to learn about new products for vending machines.
- Researching and reviewing sales predictions and other data on new products.
- Meeting with vending company representatives to sell the various food items, both new and existing, to have in vending machines.
- Listening to the needs of the vending machine companies and owners and relaying this information back to the food manufacturers regarding what customers want.
- Completing all required paperwork via computer programs or hard copy. Printing order confirmations, following up with the distribution center to ensure orders are correct and on time.
- Traveling to various meetings, clients and businesses throughout the assigned area to handle problems, check in with customers and market to new companies.
