This Santa Barbara institution was founded in 1974 in order to give mid-life professionals a custom-designed education based on their unique learning abilities and demands. Fielding's academic programs also operate on a more flexible, innovative schedule than most traditional universities, as they cater to working professionals and adults with more education and experience.
Fielding Graduate University supports three main graduate schools, each with additional departments and course offerings. The School of Psychology trains students in either clinical or media psychology and offers postdoctoral certificates in a variety of fields. The School of Educational Leadership and Change allows students to focus in subjects like Leadership of Higher Education Systems and Media Studies, while the School of Human and Organization Development offers programs in Human and Organizational Systems, Transformative Learning for Social Justice, and other continuing education and certification programs. Besides enrolling in classes, students join their faculty and alumni in becoming members of the university's Research Community. Students can develop research partnerships, request grants and work on projects by tapping into Fielding's connections and resources.
