The Florida Institute of Technology promotes "high tech with a human touch," urging its students to compete within the scientific and technological fields while remaining personal, informed and active members of society. As a selective university, Florida Tech values creativity, integrity and drive among other key characteristics of its diverse student body. In addition to providing students with access to quality faculty members, a rich student life and academic programs, the school is also known for its many research projects and resources.

Originally founded in 1958 as a training organization for professionals at today's Kennedy Space Center, Florida Tech remains a current player in the science and technology industries. The only independent, technological university in the Southeastern United States, the school has also been recognized the Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report rankings. Students are encouraged to participate in research opportunities and career development internships within the university and among the outside community, including in its Melbourne, FL, home near the Atlantic Ocean.

Students enrolling in Florida Tech can choose from a variety of majors and degree programs within the Colleges of Engineering, Science, Aeronautics, Psychology and Liberal Arts and Business. Graduate students are also attracted to the university to participate in programs like Ocean Engineering, Biological Sciences, Mathematics Education and Software Engineering. Study abroad opportunities are available to students at all levels, and the extended studies and distance learning programs offer more flexible education schedules.

Many students opt to live on campus at Florida Tech, fostering a tight-knit community in which intercollegiate sports, clubs, Greek organizations and other activities thrive. In addition to socializing with friends and classmates, Florida Tech students take part in a number of research projects at the University, at the Institutes for Energy Systems or Marine Research, among others, or at the Centers for Applied Business Research, Robotics and Spatial Systems Laboratory, Wind and Hurricane Impacts Research Laboratory and many, many others. These collaborations, complemented by the school's career assistance and guidance services, help launch careers throughout the research, science, and technology fields.
