Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949. It was originally formed as a private Christian university. The main physical campus is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The nursing program has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Their business programs are accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business schools and programs. The school also offers unique non-traditional education through their distance learning/online campus. Bachelors and Masters degrees are available from the Ken Blanchard College of Business, College of Education, College of Nursing and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The vast majority of the classes offered by the university’s physical location are also offered one hundred percent online. Non-traditional working adults can take advantage of the degree programs offered at Grand Canyon University Online to further their current career or make a career change. These students are given the same assistant, academic support and access as traditional students taking classes in a physical location. The school uses popular distance learning software, Blackboard, to keep students, classmates and instructors in touch. Communication is via email and discussion boards. Assignments, lessons, tests and quizzes are all completed on line in some classes there may only be electronic texts in some cases students are still required to purchase text books. Students are expected to log in to their classrooms at least four times per week and turn in assignments at the time set by the instructor. There are group projects and discussions, which are also assigned by instructors. Your professors and advisors will have worked in the field you are learning about. This provides a valuable opportunity to learn from leaders in your chosen field.
Grand Canyon University strives to make the financial aid process easy for students. Once the application is received each student is assigned a financial aid advisor who will walk them through the steps of applying for federal financial aid (loans, grants and work study programs), school financial aid, alternative education loans, scholarships and grants.
