Indiana State University did not begin as such. In 1865 the school was founded as the Indiana State Normal School. It has undergone three name changes to become Indiana State University over the last one hundred forty years. It is a public coeducational school located in Terre Haute, Indiana. The university is accredited by the North Central Association.
Indiana State University offers of 100 majors and has degrees available from associates to doctoral. The university is made up of six different colleges: The College of Arts and Sciences, The College of Education, The College of Business, The College of Health and Human Performances, The College of Nursing and The College of Technology. Each college is broken down into separate disciplines and related courses and programs.
The online or distance education virtual campus offers a variety of certificate, associate, bachelor, master and doctoral programs. Undergraduate degree offerings through the university’s distance learning campus range from business and industry to nursing and criminology. Masters degrees are offered in criminology, electronics, health, nursing. Technology Management is offered as a doctoral program. They have added to the variety of professional certificates and licensures but adding family nurse practitioner. The advantage to attending virtual campuses is that non traditional working adult students can attend classes and communicate with professors and classmates at their convenience. They have access to all support services, text books, library and other research sources. They communicate via email, discussion boards, and chat rooms. Courses are available via the web, television or DVD.
As a public supported University, Indiana State University is eligible to participate in federal financial aid programs. This includes grants, work study and loans. Federal grants can be subsidized or unsubsidized and are available to qualifying parents as well students. There are a variety of academic scholarships available. There are also degree specific scholarships and grants. There is special financing for United States Veterans and our active duty military personnel. Students are encouraged to speak with their financial aid counselor to find the best award package for financing their future.
