Jones International University was founded in 1993 by cable magnet Glen R. Jones. It is given credit as the first completely online university and is the first online university to be given full accreditation by any accrediting board. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. It was Mr. Jones’ foresight that led to this momentous creation of distance learning education. The latest innovation at the school is the creation of the “cyberdome”. This internet arena will host commencement ceremonies, educational seminars and entertainment for its students. Jones International has been a leader in innovative communication technology for both its students and teaching faculty. This innovative technology is a key selling point for prospective students.
Currently Jones International University hosts two online schools, the school of education and the school of business. Currently under the school of education students can earn a wide ranged of master’s degrees. If a student chooses the school of business they can obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration or business communication or masters degrees in the same field. Under all of the school’s general degree listings they are further broken down into specific specializations. Classes are held through asynchronous forums. Students can interact with each other and their instructors via interactive chat, forum discussions and email.
The financial aid office and its counselors will work closely with current and prospective students to find the right financial aid package. Jones International University offers full federal financial aid. This typically comes in the form of grants, loans and federal work study. Loans can be subsidized or unsubsidized. They also offer the federal supplemental loan program. There are alternative education loans available through the private sector. Financial aid counselors will also assist in scholarship searches. There is a special program for veterans and active duty military personnel. The college also will work with employers that offer tuition reimbursement to their employees.
