Portland State University is made up of several schools offering a wide variety of degree programs. The schools available to both traditional and distance-learning students (working adults) are Business Administration, Education, Engineering and Computer Science, Extended Studies, Fine and Performing Arts, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Social Work and Urban and Public Affairs. The school offers certificate through doctoral degrees to its students. Portland State University offers International programs, life long learning programs as well. The diversity of the degrees available is limited only by the student’s imagination.
Under the school of Extended Study, working adult students can pursue continuing education and certificates that will improve their current position with their employer. They may also pursue different levels of degrees available to better their future work. Most of the programs available are customizable to fit the student’s needs and desires.
Like with many schools today they offer online or distance learning courses and programs. These are geared for the non-traditional student. It is also possible to take a combination of traditional classroom courses and distance learning. As with most online learning students can communicate with professors and fellow students via message board, email and phone.
Portland State University is a public land grant university and has all traditional financial aid available to its students. This comes in the form of federal Title IV funding, which includes subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loans, parent loans, and federal supplemental loans. This also covers federal grants (such as Pell Grants) and state tuition grants and federal work-study programs. They offer traditional academic scholarships and of course will accept receipt of outside scholarships that a student may be awarded.
