Students at the Savannah College of Art and Design receive tutelage and guidance in the development of their craft as well as career preparedness training for life in the real world. By enlisting the aid of qualified, passionate faculty and offering countless opportunities for students to create, explore and showcase their art, the SCAD provides a well-rounded educational experience, full of artistic and practical training.
Innovative teaching styles inspire students to take advantage of the many technological, design-oriented and pre-professional resources that the college offers. Founded in 1978 as an institution attractive to both regional and national talents, SCAD continues to improve upon its tradition of giving each of its students one-on-one guidance and attention while exposing them to the many practical, professional opportunities that require creative, artistic skills.
Small class sizes enhance the excellent degree programs in areas like Fine Arts, Architecture, Teaching and Urban Design, some of which are available at both the Bachelor's and Master's degree levels. International students benefit from an English as a Second Language instruction to more effectively integrate them into the SCAD curricula and make them feel welcome. Online programs are also offered for students facing more unique schedules and obligations. Degrees can be earned in Broadcast Deign and Motion Graphics, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Historic Preservation, Illustration Design, Interactive Design and Game Development, Interior Design, Painting and Sequential Art.
The faculty and administration at SCAD utilizes its many global connections within the art world to their students' advantage by sponsoring events and exhibitions, workshops, study abroad programs and other activities. These opportunities help students bridge their artistic talents from the exclusively creative side to the career-oriented practical side by introducing them to buyers, recruiters, future business partners and other contacts and by teaching invaluable skills like creating a marketable portfolio, writing a resume and networking.
