Walden University is owned by Sylvan Learning Systems, also known as Laureate Education, Inc. The university’s main focus is to allow working professionals and busy individuals to obtain graduate degrees without sacrificing their current lifestyles. With the creation and subsequent improvement of the Internet, Walden University now offers over 37 online programs with more than 160 degree concentrations that students could access in the comfort of their own home. It is a fully accredited institution, which means students could earn the same respectable education online as they would at a traditional brick-and-mortar school.
Walden University offers a wide range of advanced degrees through its eight schools. There are several degrees, including both Master’s and PhD’s, available under each school. The schools have each set up a personalized support system to guide the students through the online enrollment process and to be there at all points during the students’ education.
The university is fully accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. The school is allowed to participate in federal financial aid programs and certain private educational funding programs. Although Walden may have many of these funding programs available, it is the responsibility of the student to apply for these programs. However, there are many helpful faculty members available who may assist students with questions regarding these matters.
Full traditional financial aid is available as well as other financing options. These will include federal financial programs such as Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, Plus Loans, and Pell Grants. There are also work-study programs available to students. They will also provide you with the correct forms to turn in to your employer for tuition reimbursement. They provide tax forms as well for all your costs which may be considered tax deductions. There are financial aid counselors available to help students wade through the paper work and to make the right decisions in financing their future.
Walden University just celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010. This milestone in the universities’ history shows that the school has not only done what it has set out to do, but has accomplished so much more.
