The idea that is Walden University came into being in the 1960’s. It actually became a reality in the 1970’s. The main focus of the school then and now was to allow people who work full time to obtain graduate degrees without interrupting their busy lives. With the creation and subsequent improvement of the Internet, Walden University also has online program of studies leading to graduate degrees. It is a fully accredited graduate school. Walden University is owned by Sylvan Learning Systems, also known as Laureate Education, Inc.

Walden University offers a wide range of postgraduate degrees through its six schools. There are several degrees available under each school. Both Masters and PhD’s are offered here. The school has set up a personalized support system to guide the students through the online enrollment process and to be there at all points during the students’ education.

The university is fully accredited and associated with several professional groups. Full accreditation means that the school is allowed to participate in federal financial aid programs and certain private educational funding programs. That all degrees are held with the same validity as a traditional university would be. Further substance is given to the programs and courses of study offered at Walden because of its professional affiliations. It is a key consideration when looking at any college or university that there are professional groups that ally themselves with the universities’ different programs. There is often and availability of scholarships and job placement through these affiliations.

Full traditional financial aid is available as well as other financing options. These will include federal financial programs such as Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, Plus Loans, and Pell Grants. There are also work-study programs available to students. They will also provide you with the correct forms to turn in to your employer for tuition reimbursement. They provide tax forms as well for all your costs they maybe considered tax deductions. There are financial aid counselors available to help students wade through the paper work and to make the right decisions in financing their future.

Walden University just celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2005. This milestone in the universities’ history shows that the school has not only done what it has set out to do, but has accomplished so much more. The goals and mission of the college were to affect social change and to provide quality graduate degree programs. Walden University has been at the forefront of offering online graduate degree programs.
